Happy New Years from Sacculturalhub.com
Pleshette Robertson, CEO & Founder of Sacculturalhub.com

Are you listening? ...because I have

a good tip for you!

How many of you are waiting until January to begin your resolutions for the new year? Well do not wait until January 2005 to begin your work-out plan. Turkey day is here and the following day and next week we will all be recovering from eating a feast of baked and fried goodies...yummie! And, yet we will face more festivities of good foods while at work and at more holiday parties...there's just too much temptation of food every where you go!

How many of you have fallen off the wagon this month due to the cold weather when it comes to working out at the gym? I know that all of us can't make it to the gym but we have to stay consistent with some type of exercise regimen during the holidays.

How many of you are having a great deal of trouble with trying to keep the extra weight of 10-20 pounds (sometime 25 pounds) off, that haunts us during the fall and winter months? Sacramento is a haven for fine dining at restaurants and even for fast-food dining. The next best thing to sleeping and watching Lifetime on a Saturday afternoon (or football games and basketball games for the guys) is eating out-on-the-town at least 3 nights a week at the best of restaurants or stopping by the nearest Popeye's, Taco Bell or McDonalds to get food for the kiddies. For those of you who love to eat, we must consider our intake of healthy foods, the money we spend on eating out versus buying groceries for the home and making our lunches and dinner. We especially must think about what are we doing to burn off those extra calories of unwanted pounds?

Well, I have some questions and tips for you to consider:

How many times a week are you taking the time to exercise or workout? You should be exercising at least 3-4 days a week for at least 30 minutes.

What type of exercise do you do? I highly recommend stretches, cardio (walking or running on the treadmill; cycling), lifting weights, and sit-ups (I hate sit-ups and dread doing them myself but if you do sit-ups in the correct manner on a consistent basis, your tummy will begin to flatten).

Where do you exercise or workout? I have several recommendations from experience. I love to jog and used to jog on a route in my neighborhood. However, I now belong to a gym, Fitness Systems, because it actually places me on a "get-up and go-to" schedule where I can be in the company of others aspiring to workout on a consistent exercise plan. I also used to lift weights in my home, in the backyard, and also in the garage. So, basically, you can exercise in your home, with others in a group in your neighborhood, at a nearby park or at a gym fitness center. I definitely recommend joining a gym as it gives you continuity with an encouraging atmosphere. And, a good gym program service will offer a variety of exercise classes along with the amenities of a variety of fitness equipment, pool, steam room, hot sauna, etc.  My sister and I totally love the Step Aerobics and Low Impact Kick Boxing classes on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings at 6 am at Fitness Systems (a routine that wakes me up and keeps me totally motivated throughout the day).

What type of foods do you eat? This is a complex question because we all eat a variety of foods in small and large quantities. However, it is important to realize the type of foods you are eating on a daily basis and how much of a type of food you are eating. For example:

  • Are you eating at least 3 types of fruit or vegetables a day or at least 2-3 times a week?

  • Are you eating 1 Snicker candy bar or Reese Cups every day or more than 3 times a week?

  • Are you eating breakfast every morning?

  • Are you eating more than 2 pieces of bread along with pasta, rice, and potatoes each day or more than 3 times a week?

  • Are you eating fried chicken, french fries, or hot links more than 3 times a week?

If you want to know more about how to create balance meal plans that are healthy and involve just buying food from the grocery story, read the book, South Beach Diet. It's an excellent tool for developing meal plans and also in providing explanations for the notion of developing healthy eating habits.

So do not wait until January rolls around with all the over-rated commercials that will begin with their New Year's resolution messages about losing weight and joining the gym. Start now with your workout plan! Of course now, it's getting extremely cold and your mind and body will try to tell you that:

  • "It's too cold and I can't up at 5:00 am to work out."

  • "I don't have the time to work out.  I have to get to work on time."

  • "I have appointments after work so I can't make it to the gym."

I have one answer for you, think of exercising just like brushing your teeth! You must work on the maintenance of your soul, body, and image just as doing the act of brushing your teeth daily for fear of embarrassment and losing your teeth if you do not.

I exercise, not only to lose and maintain my weight, but I exercise to keep my sanity and because it allows time for just "ME" and taking care of "ME". And besides ladies, when you exercise it builds up your confidence, keeps you motivated, provides you with a better frame of thinking, gives you energy, and most of all the appearance of your body and overall image improves over time with shapely curves, a glow and shine of true beauty!

We must get ready for those appearances that we will be making next year at a host of exciting events and vacation trips coming up in 2005! Hub Fans be sure to check your e-mail and visit the website at least once a week for the special announcements and more exciting events to be posted soon!

True Blessings for a Prosperous New Year!
