Founder's Room - Editorial Message

FOCUS and  FOLLOW-THROUGH!

Where did 2006 go? I ‘m still trying to steal back days and hours from December. Well, we can’t go back toPleshette Robertson, CEO & Founder - Sacculturalhub.com yesterday. So we must focus on the HERE, NOW, and the FUTURE—The year of 2007! Every since we started publishing our newspaper in February 2006, I’ve always been at odds with what to write about for the “Founder’s Room”. I usually scan several magazines and newspapers to see what other editors are writing about. This always helps me figure out what the heck I’m going to talk about! As you can see my theme is “Focus and Follow-Through!”. In 2006 so much happened in terms of new business projects, world/war issues, family crisis, local community mishaps and party brawls. Some very wonderful things happened as well 2006. With everything that happens in a given day or time period, it often causes distractions. So how do we stay focused and continue down a straight and positive path? We concentrate on one thing at time and set realistic to do lists. We also try not to rush at making things happen when we’re not quite ready to go forward. We launched our website in March of 2002 and tried to start a print publication 3 times prior to following through with our newspaper in 2006. As you decide to pursue something new or continue a special project, remember some of these dos and don’ts.

  • Do set aside time for prayer, meditation, and exercise on a daily basis!

  • Do learn something new to enhance your skills!

  • Do concentrate on one thing at a time!

  • Do spend some time writing down your goals and establishing a Business Action Plan!

  • Do remember to carry your business cards as this shows you are ready for opportunities!

  • Do follow-up with thank you notes and greeting cards; it’s VIP to establish rapport, continue relationships/partnerships with friends and business associates

  • Do choose carefully your immediate circle of close friends; anyone can be a business associate, but very few, if any, can be a FRIEND!

  • Do follow your conscience; listen to the small voices in the back of your head (that you don’t want to hear)!

  • Do stay abreast about what’s happening beyond Sacramento and the outside United States.

  • Do prepare before hand; it makes the day go smoother!

  • Do practice your 1-minute personal/business commercial about who you are and what you do; you must learn to capture someone’s interest within the first 60 seconds of conversation or as my sister always says; “don’t be boring and talk too much!”

  • Do set realistic timelines deadlines and stick by them!

  • Do stay focused; don’t get sidetracked!

  • Do practice SAVING and INVESTING as this will keep you focused on your monthly budget!
Do respond to phone calls within a 24-hour period!

  • Do remain courageous and stand for what you believe in!

  • Don’t start a project and not finish it!

  • Don’t focus on the negative.  Always concentrate on the positive and hope for the BEST results (I hate when people NEVER have anything to say good and their comments are always filled with pessimism) .

  • Don’t let WORK consume you; remember to take a break (I so have a hard time with this particular don’t)

  • Don’t bargain, first STAND firm on your costs or your answer, then NEGOTIATE!

  • Don’t be easily persuaded--everything is not always what it seems to be!

  • Don’t be a clutter box; get rid of old papers and junk boxes!

  • Don’t wait until the last minute to file your taxes for 2006!

  • Don’t procrastinate, get started early!

  • Don’t fall behind. Stay on the forefront as this is VIP to knowing the who, what, where and why. My sister and I always joke about how there are some people who are so incredibly behind that they find it impossible to catch up with LIFE!
