My 2013 Spring Makeover

In March 2013 I got a SPRING MAKEOVER as I surely needed it.  There comes a time when you need and want new photos, a new hairdo, and new pointers for great make-up tricks.  My private photo shoot experience at the Make-Up Bar with Takia, Professional Stylist/Make-over Artist and Photographer, April was exactly what I needed to "get my groove back!" This professional duo totally made me feel like a move star on set and I loved their super hospitality with my Mimosa in hand and great music!  If you are looking to get new photos, you should definitley treat yourself to a photo session for a celebrity makeover while you enjoy cocktails and music at the Make-Up Bar with Take Meacham (www.facebook.com/TakiaM.HAIRARTIST) and April Taylor of A Love Photography (www.facebook.com/PhotographybyALove).  For more info e-mail iamsupremestyle@gmail.com or call (916) 256-8810.

As I am a mother of 3 daughters (21, 19, and 15), I would like to wish a very Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are in the role of motherhood in your families.  Be sure to read the next issue of THE HUB Magazine Spring/April 2013 (on newsstands week of April 22nd) as it places a great deal of focus on the family and if you aren't already doing so, please take the lead or join forces to improve our lifestyle of health and safety in our communities.  We encourage you to subscribe to THE HUB Magazine and see the current digital issue online now and have access to past issue >>see more.

Setting Your Goals for 2013

The new year always presents a new opportunity to set goals for yourself personally and professionally. YOU should consider these simple DO’s & DON’Ts of goal setting, if you are planning to: lose weight; run in a marathon; get married; take a vacation; save money for a new home; start your 401k plan; redesign your bathroom, buy a car; start school; run for a political position; raise funds for a charity campaign; seek a new job promotion; change careers; start or expand your business I highly recommend that you buy yourself a journal, if you don’t already have one, and begin writing down your goals to start and complete your plan or project. Write down every thought that comes to you about your new project and match or list with your set of goals. As your plan to succeed, begins with a realistic set of SMART goals, your goals need to be set and set high; expectations need to be limitless; and ambition cannot be restrained. If you believe you can only go so far, it is an obstacle.

DO: Visualize your desired outcome

DON'T: Go into your goal with a defeatist attitude

DO: Write down your course of action in an easy step-by-step format that can be checked off with each accomplishment

DON'T: Try to memorize all of the steps as most will be forgotten

DO: Think positive all the time

DON'T: Let yourself be overcome with the negatives or set backs

DO: Surround yourself in motivating factors and keep them in easy to spot locations

DON'T: Forget the reason why you have set up your in the first place

DO: Set your plan of action as soon as you know what you want and start right away

DON'T: Procrastinate in beginning your course of action

DO: Be realistic in your setting your goals

DON'T: Set your goals too high to achieve them

DO: Be specific in the goals you choose

DON'T: Set goals that are too vague

DO: Learn to be organized in your thinking patterns

DON'T: Make no effort to keep track of all of your achievements

DO: Share your achievements with those around you

DON'T: Downplay your achievements

DO: Stay focused on your goals Don’t: Let yourself get off track

In 2001 I began profusely writing in my “Prayer Journal” and wrote and wrote about my goals, dreams and new plans for myself and my family. Don’t ever forget that the POWER of words on paper will be the foreground and assist in translating your dreams into reality.

True Blessings!

Experience the Joy of Sharing the Wealth

Experience the Joy of Sharing the Wealth

I’ve asked myself several times, what do I value most and what makes life worthwhile? Like most people, I like to imagine, “If I had a million dollars, I could do this, and I would be free to do that....” But I also know that it’s not money that brings you true joy! But when you share the wealth, you can live in expectancy. As God gives us time, abilities and other resources, he expects us to invest wisely (Matthew 25:15). We are responsible to use well what God has given us. The issue is not how much we have, but what we do with what we have.

Genuine wealth is, as Robert Kennedy noted, the things that make life worthwhile. Most of us could define these things in a few minutes. The condition of my well-being is so defined by my state of mind–in how I manage my lifestyle, how I manage my household, how my business is organized, how I treat and help others and how I manage my finances.

I value spending time with my family, successfully managing my finances with what I already have, fellowshipping with friends and family at church, and sharing information and helpful resources with others. Of course, my key favorites that bring me joy and contentment are: eating, exercising, socializing and laughing. We must learn to utilize and manage what we already have and share more with others so that we can receive more. To receive more, you must give more and this can be in many ways, through sharing of resources, information, your individual talents or volunteer time. So does it really matter how much you money you have? How big your house is? How expensive your car is, or how large your salary? Does money really make your life richer? What determines your genuine wealth? What brings you joy?

The holiday season is about sharing. What or who will you share it with this holiday season? There are so many people in need of shelter, food and clothing due to the current economy. Some of us wonder, “What can I do? I am barely making it myself!” But there are so many ways to share that do not require money. It all begins with using what you already have–your time, your talent, and donations of what you are not using anymore that could be of use to someone else.

Best of wishes to you and your family for a genuine wealth of blessings! Begin the holiday season with sharing Sacculturalhub.com and THE HUB Magazine with someone who doesn’t know about us so they stay informed about best of exciting events and resources for the entire family. We take pride in the celebration of living your life in abundance. Our mission is to keep you inspired and empowered by a wealth of diversified news that will motivate and elevate African American professionals, communities of color and youth to thrive and succeed in life.
