A number of tributes are planned in Sacramento and the Bay Area to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Here’s a look at some of them.

9/11 Run to Remember

Features a 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run in downtown Sacramento, plus The Tribute in the Park after the run at Capitol Mall between 5th and 7th Streets.

9/11 Empty Shoe Memorial & Tribute

Held at Cal Expo, this event will include an Empty Shoe Memorial where a pair of shoes will represent every man, woman and child lost on September 11, 2001, and a 9/11 Memorial Event later than morning.

9/11 Memorial Climb

For Sacramento Area Firefighters only, this event pays tribute to the 343 firefighters of FDNY that lost their lives at the World Trade Center. This year’s climb will be held at the Renaissance Tower in Sacramento. Each firefighter will carry the name of a fallen brother over their own name up 110 floors to the roof of the building.

San Francisco 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Uniformed firefighters, police officers, first responders and military personnel honor the 343 firefighters of FDNY that lost their lives at the World Trade Center by wearing the name and photo of one of the fallen while climbing a building in San Francisco.

Hand On Bay Area 9/11 Project: Operation Dignity
