Can an Instagram tag bolt your aspirations for a professional modeling career? You BETCHA as it did for Ms. Mariah Lawson, 23-years old, who placed numerous tags on the Instagram site of Hudson Jeans. I was so excited to hear from my mom about this beautiful young lady’s GOOD NEWS of whom I’ve known since she was in junior high school attending with my daughter in Sacramento. Mariah will be participating as a model for Hudson Jeans in one of the largest annual fashion trade shows, the Magic Show taking place in Las Vegas on August 15-17.
I had noticed on Mariah’s Facebook page that she had posted “Has anyone ever heard of Hudson Jeans?” I immediately liked her post as I’ve seen Hudson Jeans in Nordstrom’s Rack all time but could never find any of these jeans in my size (32 waist), but my mom has a pair and they are so cute! Mariah currently resides in Pasadena, CA but grew up in the Del Paso Heights area of Sacramento, CA. She graduated in 2011 from Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove, CA with later transferring to Sacramento City College. While in school she worked various jobs with her favorite sales position at Champs in the Arden Fair shopping mall in Sacramento. There was also a short stint of time where Mariah ran track while in college (400 hurdles, 400 open and 4×4 relay). Mariah states she got injured in her first year and wasn’t able to recover to compete so she lost focus and motivation to stay in school and finish.
After moving to Southern California in 2014, Mariah has worked a waitress position and grocery clerk but made the decision to enroll in the Citrus College Cosmetology program in October 2015 and is scheduled to graduate in December 2016. She has recently become an Uber driver of which she states has been her best investment in becoming her own boss and never been happier (#TEAMUBEREVERYWHERE).

THE HUB: Three words that best describe you?
Mariah: Creative, Funny, Sensitive
THE HUB: How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Mariah: 3 sisters and 3 brothers
THE HUB: Why did you decide to move to Southern California?
Mariah: It wasn’t planned it just happened. I was moving back to Houston,TX because I loved it there and I made a pit stop in Los Angeles (LA) before flying out where my best friends Stephanie and James lived. They basically told me all the reasons why I should not go to Texas and all the reasons why LA was a better move, so I stayed. Plus I love water and the beach was the icing on the cake for me.
THE HUB: So tell me how did you strike a contract with Hudson?
Mariah: Well, I hashtag like crazy on Instagram and I mean if you tag and hashtag the same people over and over its only a matter of time before they reach back. They have been liking my pictures but they (Social Media Coordinator) finally creeped into my DM (Direct Message).
THE HUB: Had you been seriously interested in modeling before this?
Mariah: No, honestly ever since I was younger everyone said I should model especially my Aunt Elaine, but I was to much of a tomboy to even picture myself in a dress and heels lol. But sure enough when I cut my hair and moved to LA and changed my image I always got stopped and was asked if I model. So I told myself everyone thinks I’m a model and some star, let me really try it out and see where it takes me. So here I am and now I have a passion to kill the model industry and give them some spice they never tasted ahha.
THE HUB: What size do you actually wear?
Mariah: My sizes go up and down I mean I don’t weigh much lol but…34 bust, 25 waist, 32 hips, 40 Leg length, 24 Arm length, 20 Thigh, 8 1/2-9 shoe size.
THE HUB: You have some wonderful looks and I love the way you dress, tell us about some of the places you shop for clothes and shoes and why?
Mariah: Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, Zara, Bloomingdales, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, Random Vintage Shops. I love Vince, Hudson, Steve Madden heels, Zara, Nike, Ralph Lauren and many more lol…
THE HUB: Who is your hairstylist? Your hair has been many different colors, which color have you liked the most and why?
Mariah: James Gilbert (AKA BrandNewJames out of Salon Sessions in Pasadena, CA) since 2012 and has been the only one that is allowed to cut my hair lol. He cut my dreads off in 2014 and I been bald ever since lol. I would actually catch the train from Sacramento to LA to get my hair done before I moved because it was that serious! So far I love this frosty white I’ve been rocking this summer.
THE HUB: How often do you work out and what type of exercises do you enjoy most?
Mariah: I workout when I feel like it some weeks more than others some weeks I don’t work out at all. But I love to do ab workouts and hit the steam room at the gym. And run at the beach or ride my RodeBike for my lower body.
THE HUB: So this contract deal with Hudson where you will be featuring their line of jeans at the Magic Show in Vegas in August 2016, please tell us more about that:
Mariah: I don’t have full details yet all I know is my flight, hotel, and meals will be paid for as well as a flat day rate.
THE HUB: Tell us about what you do for fun in LA:
Mariah: I like to annoy my best friend Stephanie and my man James lol. Just kidding… But I like to go to art walks, hike, lay at the beach, go dancing on Hip Hop nights in West Hollywood, sit at rooftops and lay by the pool downtown LA and cook.
THE HUB: What is something about you that people would be suprised to know?
Mariah: I’m a addicted to twerking around the house lol. Like it’s both fun and a workout!!!
THE HUB: Who has been most influential to you or your hero in your life?
Mariah: Jesus is my hero. My loved ones and supporters influence me. My spouse James is a big part of the way my image and drive in life to want more and never settle has changed in a positive way.
