Producers Kevin McCollum, Doug Morris and Berry Gordy just announced the complete cast for the national tour of Motown The Musical, which launches April 22 in Chicago and will play in San Francisco August 15-Sept 28.
Clifton Oliver and Allison Semmes will star as Berry Gordy and Diana Ross, respectively. They will be joined by the newly announced Nicholas Christopher as Smokey Robinson and Jarran Muse as Marvin Gaye. Leon Outlaw, Jr. and Reed L. Shannon will portray Berry Gordy’s boyhood counterpart and the roles of young stars Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, Motown, according to press notes, is the “true American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and so many more.”
