Drivers Wanted for Metal Mayhem
Drivers are needed for the Metal Mayhem destruction derbies for two nights at the State Fair – a cars-only derby on July 21, and a car derby followed by an all-RVs smashup on July 22. The car derby purse payout is $5,000 each night, and the motor home purse payout is $6,000.
Metal Mayhem is open to ages 16 and older. Interested drivers may pick up a copy of the rules, vehicle preparation specs and entry information anytime 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday, at the Cal Expo Administration Building, 1600 Exposition Blvd., in Sacramento. Qualified vehicles are two-wheel-drive American-made automobiles (no convertibles, hearses, limos, T-tops or “foreign-type cars” allowed) and class C motor homes.

Golden Bear Award Honoree Announced
Earl “Butch” Butler, co-founder of Butler Amusements Inc., has been named this year’s recipient of the prestigious Golden Bear Award, presented annually to individuals or organizations for their admirable service and extensive support of the California Exposition and State Fair. Butler, who passed away in December 2011, has provided the carnival for the State Fair since 2009. His award will be presented to his family during the 33rd annual Friends of the California State Fair Gala on July 6.
