Almost annually, a celebrity dresses in blackface for Halloween. Each ends up apologizing. And then the next year, it happens again.

Well, country star Jason Aldean isn’t apologizing yet, but his publicist, Tyne Parrish, confirms to USA TODAY that was him dressed as rapper Lil Wayne in blackface makeup, fake dreadlocks and gold jewelry this Halloween.

A picture of Aldean in dark makeup, first posted by the website NashvilleGab.com, quickly circulated on social media.

Dressing in blackface has long been controversial, deemed insensitive at best and racist at worst, harkening back to a time when white Americans would paint their faces and act out racist and offensive stereotypes about African-Americans.
