The United States Postal Service (USPS) is proposing to a three-cent rate hike for stamps starting in 2014, bringing the cost of first-class postage stamps to 49 cents, according to an article on USAToday.com.

According to the article, if the rate increase is approved, it would raise about $2 billion in additional revenue a year for USPS, an organization that posted a $15.9 billion net loss last fiscal year and is looking to post a $6 billion loss this year due to “pre-funding payments for retiree health benefits.”
