What is BIG Day of Giving?

BIG Day of Giving is an online networking and giving event that provides nonprofit organizations the opportunity to gain exposure and start relationships with new donors, and for the people in the Sacramento region to come together to raise as much money as possible for participating organizations within a 24-hour period. The effort was organized and implemented by a collaboration of GiveLocalNow and your local community foundations: Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Placer Community Foundation and Yolo Community Foundation. The online event will take place from 12:00 AM PDT Tuesday, May 5 to 11:59 PM PDT.  Additionally, a pool of incentive funds has been made available thanks to our sponsors.  For a list of sponsors, please see the scrolling logos on the homepage of this website or visit the partners page.
WHY is BIG Day of Giving a good opportunity for our community?
The nonprofit sector is the heart and soul of the region, enriching our community in immeasurable ways. Our four county region includes many incredible organizations that are doing extraordinary things. The BIG Day of Giving is a unique opportunity for the public to learn about their work, how they are contributing to our community and their chance to say thank you by making a donation.BIG Day of Giving is a time-limited donation period designed to expand and increase giving to local nonprofits that provide vital services that help to sustain our community. In 2014, we proved that we are truly a generous region by surpassing our $1 million goal and raising over $3 million from over 12,000 donors! On May 5th, 2015, we are confident that our community will rally and once again prove its generous spirit!
WHAT is GivingEdge?
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation, with the help of local funding partners, launched the GivingEdge, a powerful community tool and online resource to help you find nonprofit organizations in our region, learn about the impact they are making, and make a secure online donation. It is a way to broadly share knowledge about local nonprofits’ needs and the vital services they provide in the Greater Sacramento region. Our goal is to make philanthropy accessible, fun and easy for the entire community. Its main objective is to help donors and the community better understand nonprofit organizations’ strengths and needs and connect donors with organizations they care about most. The underlying database provides information about local nonprofits, including financial, governance and programmatic details, allowing nonprofits the opportunity to tell their story and illustrate their work and best practices. All participating nonprofits were required to complete a GivingEdge profile. You can view any participating nonprofits’ profile by going to or click on the GivingEdge link on their donation page.
WHO can participate?
Organizations eligible to participate must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works or serves any of the following counties (Sacramento, El Dorado, Yolo, Placer). They must also have a minimum of 3 years financial history, cannot be a church or school and must have a profile on the GivingEdge. Organizations were also required to fill out a commitment form, attend a BIG Day of Giving orientation, and training on how to create a GivingEdge profile.
This event is open to the public. Anyone who wishes to participate will be able to make a secure donation by debit or credit card on This event site is a secure PCI Level 1 website for safe, fast and secure transactions.
