Will
Dean is the president and general
manager of Saturn
of Elk Grove.
He accomplished this by working for
six years in the General Motors
Minorities Dealer Development
Program. Other car manufacturers
like Ford and Chrysler have these
programs, but it's not something
that's widely known unless you're in
the auto industry. Prior
to that, Mr. Dean was the general
manager for Hilltop Buick Pontiac GMC
in Richmond, California.
Question:
How did you get into this line of
work?
Answer:
I had to decide if I would spend
my entire career in corporate
America or go into business for
myself. I looked at different
franchises and realized pizza, etc.
was not for me. I have always
had a love for cars. I decided
to leverage my experience in selling
and marketing. Some of the
best advice I got prior to going
into business was you should love
what you do because you're going to
be doing it 12-13 hours a day, seven
days a week.
Question:
What's your dream car?
Answer:
The Saturn Sky, (a sporty two-seater
roadster). I love the lines,
curves and response of it. It
evokes an emotional response, every
now and then I put the top down on
the freeway and people pace me to
see what I'm driving. I
usually drive an Aura (sport sedan).
Question:
What do you see as urgent issues
for Sacramento?
Answer:
Our national economy and the housing
issue. We're harder hit than other
areas of the country. Make
sure we effectively manage our
growth and have proper
infrastructure to support our
growth. We need more jobs to
make Sacramento a strong business
environment.
