The internet was all a-buzz yesterday with reports via Twitter and various news agencies that the Sacramento Kings were soon to become the Seattle Kings.

According to an article on USAToday.com, the Maloofs were reportedly in negotiations with a Seattle group led by hedge fund manager Chris Hansen and Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer that would ultimately move the Kings to Seattle.

Reportedly if the deal happens, the Maloofs would still hold a small percentage of ownership in the team, and the team would be renamed the Sonics.

According to an article on the Sacramento Business Journal’s website, if the deal happens the Maloofs would sell the Kings for $500 million, and the Kings would move to Seattle for the 2013-2014 season.

However, Sacramentans are not letting go without a fight. Another Sacramento Business Journal article reports a group of fans are circulating a petition in an effort to keep the team in Sacramento.

And Mayor Kevin Johnson is also reportedly talking to local investors to see if they can make a counteroffer to keep the Kings in Sacramento, according to an article on SacBee.com.
