Hub Review: Marvel Universe Live at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento

Hub Review:  Marvel Universe Live at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento

by Michael P. Coleman

Look no further than Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena this weekend for the end of the world as we know it.

Well, technically, demigod Loki just wants to rule the world.  He’s created a new device that he’ll use to gain control of earth, and has kidnapped the X-Men’s Storm and Cyclops.  It’ll take The Avengers, joined by Spiderman and Wolverine, to save their fellow heroes and stop Loki before it’s too late.  Can they do it???

Straight off of your favorite movie screen or comic book, Marvel Universe Live delivers, magnificently bringing some of your favorite superheroes to life.  Neither you nor your kids want to miss this spectacular, special efforts-laden show.

Marvel Universe Live presents the aforementioned heroes along with many of their compatriots:  Iron Man.  The Hulk.  Captain America.  Thor.  Hawkeye.  Black Widow.  Nick Fury.  Falcon.  And to help Natasha Romanov provide a little gender equity, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

If that sounds like a super-lineup that could easily overpower Loki, he’s got some villainous help in the forms of Doc Octopus, Green Goblin, Rhino, Black Cat, Electro, The Lizard, The Red Skull, Whiplash, and multiple Hydra agents.  They are ALL there.  There are explosions, lightning and thunder, burning cars and people, death-defying motorcycle stunts, and flying & falling heroes & villains.

Webs spin!  Shields fly!  Repulser blasts…blast!  Battlegrounds include the frozen Swiss Alps and the top of the Statue of Liberty in New York!

All at Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena.

If your Spidey Sense tells you that I enjoyed Marvel Universe Live immensely, you’re right.  It was CRAZY!!!  I was really impressed with the acrobatics, the motorcycle stunts, and the brilliant use of lighting and props to virtually transform the arena for the variety of locations depicted in the show.   If you’re a comic fan, a fan of the movies, or just want to treat the kids in the family (no matter what age those kids are) to a fantastic show, don’t miss it.   The show’s dialogue caters to children and adults, with several funny lines that only the adults will get (from the heroes as well as supporting cast like Jarvis and Pepper Pots).

Feel free to dress up for the show — there were MANY adults and children at Thursday night’s opening in their best superhero attire.  I met a very hot Storm while waiting for my nachos, and I even bumped into Wolverine — literally — on my way to the restroom.  Thank God Logan kept that berserker rage of his under control.  He had PLENTY of opportunities to work out his anger issues during Marvel Universe Live.

Marvel Universe Live is at Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena only through Sunday, March 15th.  Tickets are available at the box office or at ticketmaster.com.  Get more info on the show atmarveluniverselive.com.
