2nd Annual Sacramento Black Book Fair (SBBF)

Have you seen the great line up of events and activities to take place at the Sacramento Black Book Fair this weekend of June 5-7, 2015. I, Pleshette Robertson, will be volunteering this weekend, June 5-7 and can’t wait to attend some of these events when I finish my shift.

Blue Nile Press, the Black Group, and Community Sponsors, in conjunction with the Juneteenth Festival, present the 2nd Annual Sacramento Black Book Fair to feature more than seventy authors of African descent, showcasing a diverse spectrum of authors and literature, from contemporary and historical fiction, to anthologies, poetry, academic books, children’s stories, non-fiction to biographies, self-help, inspirational, and religious.

2015 Celebration Themes: “Reading, a Pathway to Freedom,” “50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act,” “The Black Arts Movement”, and “Why Sacramento?”

This event is FREE and open to the public. The 2nd Annual Sacramento Black Book Fair will begin on Friday, June 5th at The Guild Theater with an opening reception at 6 pm follollowing by a panel discussions starting at 6:45 pm on “The Black Arts Movements and Voting Rights Act” and then continue on Saturday, June 6 from 9 am to 5:30 pm & Sunday, June 7 from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm with a host of events at several venues in the heart of historic Oak Park, Sacramento neighborhood at several venues that include: The Women’s Civic Improvement Center, The Brickhouse Art Gallery, Underground Books, the Guild Theater, the Alpha Kappa Alpha House, the Oak Park United Methodist Church, Mc George School of Law, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, and McClatchy Park.  Bring the entire family.

The Roberts Family Development Center (RFDC) will provide FREE Shuttle Service to the 9 different venues during the 2015 Sacramento Black Book Fair (SBBF). So look for the vans Saturday, June 6, 2015 and Sunday, 7, 2015 in historic Oak Park!

Dozens of activities include: Opening Reception/Meet & Greet; Books on Parade; 3-day Master Class; Book Signings; Author Presentations; Panel Discussions; Live Jazz Mixer; Children’s Fun & Literacy Area-Games, Storytelling, Music, Books, Poetry, African Drumming; and Talent Show Auditions for Juneteenth Festival.
