MONTHLY MEETING: For Arts Sake Saramento |

December 10  Let's pack the house SacTown for the sake of culture in Sacramento. It's the monthly "For Art's Sake Sacramento" meeting taking place at Sojourner Truth Multicultural Art Musuem located at 2251 Florin Road in South Sac on Thurs-12/10. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting is from 10 to 11 am. For more info contact Sharon Gerber at 916-448-2881.
"Mayor Kevin Johnson launched Sacramento's For Art's Sake initiative in June 2009. The goal is to create a collective vision and direction for arts in Sacramento. He challenged citizens to be bold, work collaboratively and reinvent the way the arts are defined and supported in the community." So please if you care about supporting and being involved in changes taking place surrounding the Arts of Sacramento, show up to listen, ask questions, and network so that you stay in the loop. I attended the October meeting at Hot Italian in Downtown Sac and learned so much NEED-TO-KNOW information. We need ALL African Americans to show up on Thurs-12/10 at Sojourner Truth Multi-Cultural Art Museum (916-271-8855) to support the "ARTS". They say we don't count because we don't show up, but YOU need to make a difference and make your presence known as well as voice your concerns and opinions!

 Farewell Appreciation Reception for Kim Curry-Evans of 40 Acres Art Gallery. Taking place on Sun-12/6 from 2 pm to 6 pm at 1001 Del Paso Blvd. at Acoma Street. Sponsored by The Kuumba Collective Art Gallery & The Sojurner Truth Multi-Cultural Art Center. Ms. Curry-Evans help raise the bar for showcasing art here in Sacramento. With a long trajectory in the visual arts, Ms. Curry-Evans has curated numerous exhibitions about such artists as Beverly McIver, Mark Priest, Charles Stewart, and Milton Bowens, and was the guest curator for HairStories, a nationally touring art exhibit addressing the social, historical, and political impact of African-American hair on popular culture.
