The Oak Park Summer Concert Series, Inc. presents its 24th Annual Oak Park Summer Concert on this Sat-7/31 from 1:30 pm – 6:30 pm at McClatchy Park. This FREE concert will take place at 33rd Street and 5th Avenue in Sacramento (down the street from Underground Books in Oak Park area). African Aerobics with Instructor, Cherry Douglas, teaching Congelese Dancing. If you want to trim your waistline and get your legs in shape, take this class. Taking place on Wednesday nights at 6 pm at Fitness Systems, 26 Massie Court in South Sacramento (right off Stockton Blvd). Cherry has over 30 years of experience in African Dance. In her early 20's she danced and performed throughout the Bay Area with Fua Dia Congo under the late Malonga Casquelourd. Experience the drum beat, sexy rhythmetic body moves, and feel the energy of African Aerobics. Members of the gym are free and non members just $5 to take the class. Nehemiah Corporation presents its 2nd year Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program (NELP) to develop growth and diversity in civic involvement. Please submit your nominations by July 30, 2010. NELP is a leadership development effort targeting culturally diverse leaders between the ages of 20 to 35. The program develops and refines the skills and talents of emerging leaders, creating a 21st Century leadership pipeline. Nehemiah Corporation of America along with Coro Leadership, American Leadership Forum and Drexel University is conducting a yearlong leadership program for community organizers and promising young professionals. “We are also challenging our current community leaders to join us in providing promising young people of color with training needed to step into leadership roles,” said Scott Syphax, President and CEO of the Nehemiah Corporation. >>read more
