Artist Jason Miccolo Johnson’s Soul Sanctuary: Images of the African American Worship Experience comes to the West Coast for the very first time and features 50 photographs from his book of the same name. Visitors will be taken in by arresting images taken in rural and urban storefront churches and large inner-city and suburban megachurches from around the country, meant to capture the essence and rhythms of the black Christian church.
A complimentary exhibit, Spirituality from my Point of View, will also be on view at 40 Acres Art Gallery and Underground Books, featuring photography by students attending Sacramento High School and Christian Brothers High School.
