 PRESS RELEASE - 03.10.05

The Future of Gospel Radio in Sacramento

Why has the Gospel Express Show on The Bomb's 103.5 radio show lineup been cut from 6 am to 12 noon to now 6 am to 10 am? The Founder of Sacculturalhub.com has been so disturbed by this issue and has decided to publish comments from online users about our concerns and comments.  We absolutely love the Gospel Express Show hosted by Tommy Goss who has been instrumental in the increased listener ratings.

Received on 3/9/05 [Broadcasted via e-mail by the Sacramento NAACP]

Gospel Alert! The hours have been cut for our beloved gospel host extraordinaire Tommy Goss at KBMB-The Bomb 103.5 FM. This is the beginning of what will be a complete ouster of the popular gospel program. Please call Tommie DeRio, Program Manager at KBMB 103.5 FM at (916) 646-4000 or write to him at 1436 Auburn Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95815. Let's change Mr. Del Rio's pending cancellation of the successful gospel program and show Mr. Goss our full support to keep the show on the air. Call and/or write today!

Outreach Response e-mailed on 3/9/05 [From Lee Perkins at V101.1]

I have an answer to this problem that is plaguing our communities.  All too often we are finding African American broadcasters losing out to others in this world of corporate decisions. I would love to have Tommie Goss be a part of our team at V101.1.When we first became V101.1, I thought it was important to see the value in the community, which is why I started the "Unity in the Community" slogan and attach it to every community event that we are a part of, and now it has flourished and with the addition of Tommie Goss, our Gospel community would continue to have a voice. Even with the Bomb 103.5 being a competitor, I have always appreciated the community involvement of Mr. Goss. We must come together and not let our voices go unheard....call the Bomb, and let them know your concerns, and at the same time, call V101.1 and let your voice be heard that "we want Tommie"! V101.1 is the answer to Mr. Goss' dilemma....our phone number is (916) 929-5325...our General Mananger is Jeff Holden....inform him what is going on and that V101.1 is the answer to this dilemma in our Black community. I am proud to be the only African American hosting a morning show in Sacramento, and without your support, we will be like Doug Banks and Tom Joyner, let's not let that happen...support V101.1, Betty Williams at the Sacramento NAACP, and the rest of your community leaders!

My personal comments [from the Founder of Sacculturalhub.com]

2 THUMBS UP for Lee Perkins' from V101.1! HIS solution sounds very GOOD! And, I will certainly be calling to express my concerns! Great idea Lee! I've already left a message for Tommie DeRio on his voicemail yesterday evening about, "how ridiculous it is to shorten Goss' gospel radio on Sundays especially when this freakin' town of Sacramento is recognized as a family haven of over 75% of the population having some type of religious values especially connected with listening to Gospel music. If this is not an issue of ratings, what the heck is the problem! Geeeeeeeeeeeeez, people ought to be able listen to something on the radio that doesn't corrupt your brains and make you stupid (I'm just a little bit upset!)."
