Fresno > Celebrating Black Motherhood & Fatherhood Forum on Thurs-11/14

In Fresno County Black Babies are three times as likely to die within their first year of life than white infants, and they die nearly three times as often as Hispanic babies. The infant death rate shows black deaths occurred 76% more often than expected. For the past 10 years African American children under the age of 5 have a mortality rate that is 2 to 3 times the rate of all other ethnicities. For the past 10 years the mortality rate for African American youth under 20 years of age was at least 2 and in some years 3 times that of all other races. Sacramento County has reached the 5th year of implementation of their very successful Black Child Legacy Campaign and has been successful in reducing infant/child deaths in the African American community. At this time Fresno has been uniquely positioned to follow in the footsteps of Sacramento County and will be the second California County to embark upon this journey.

As you reflect on these statistics, what is your story? Your invited to a Black Child Legacy Campaign Forum "Celebrating Black Motherhood and Fatherhood". Taking place on Thursday, November 14th from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm in Fresno. This is a community forum to focus on lived experiences. Come to this listening session to share your real experiences through pregnancy, childbirth and the black family experience.
