2017 Young Women's Summit & Scholarship

Today's young women are tomorrow's leaders and business owners. We look to celebrate their present and future with the 2017 Young Women's Summit, part of the 2017 Exceptional Women of Color Networking Brunch Conference.

Young women of color, ages 12-21, are invited to participate in this one-day Summit featuring discussions and activites on what topics are important to them right now, and what they need to know to realize their full potential in the future.   Interactive workshops and panel presentations will focus on: education and technology, career & job development, social media etiquette, protection against sex trafficking, breast cancer awareness, entrepreneurship, and how to save money.

The Y-EWOC Young Exceptional Women of Color Scholarship Competition

The Y-EWOC Young Exceptional Women of Color Scholarship Competition was started in May 2012 to help assist young women of color, ages 14-21, afford higher education attending high school or college in Northern California. The goal of this scholarship is to encourage young women of color – African-American, Hispanic and Latino American, Asian/Pacific Islander American, or Indian/Native American – to pursue their dreams through education.

The EWOC Advisory Committee will award two $500 scholarships to two young women of color between the ages of 14-21 who:

  • Are in good academic standing at an institution of learning;
  • Plan to pursue some type of higher education, be it at a university, college or vocational school;
  • Demonstrate work in the community;
  • And can answer the question, “What Makes an Exceptional Woman of Color?”

Submissions must include the following in PDF form:

  • Completed Y-EWOC Scholarship Competition Application Form - CLICK HERE to download the form
  • Copy of your last transcript or report card in 2017
  • One letter of reference – can either be a character reference by someone you know, or a teacher/mentor reference (reference cannot be from someone related to you)
  • Resume (e.g. - list of your achievements, hobbies, awards received, any job or volunteer experience)

Submissions must also include either an essay not to exceed 1,000 words or video not to exceed 3 minutes in length answering the question, “What Makes an Exceptional Woman?”

  • Essays should be be saved in a PDF format and emailed with the requested information above.
  • Videos should be uploaded to YouTube and a link emailed with the requested information above.

Scholarships will be awarded at the 2016 Exceptional Women of Color Networking Brunch on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

If selected to receive a Y-EWOC Scholarship, Sac Cultural Hub will request your photo and reserves the right to use your picture and information on the Internet and in print format.
