Get Ready for the June 5 Election

June 5 is the Statewide Presidential Primary Election in California.

According to Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections, polls will be open that day from 7am to 8pm. Click here to access the Polling Place Lookup for Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections.

Although the deadline to register to vote has passed, voters can still request a vote by mail ballot be mailed to them until May 29. For more information on this option, call 916-875-6155.

RIP Donna Summer

Disco music legend Donna Summer has passed away due to cancer at the age of 63, according to numerous news reports.

Anthony Iton – a primary care physician, lawyer, and public health advocate dedicated to improving the health outcomes of disadvantaged populations – will present “A New Public Health Practice Targeting the Root Causes of Health Inequity” at 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 15 at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Auditorium in Sacramento.

His talk is part of UC Davis Health System's Snively Visiting Professorship in Family and Community Medicine.

Iton is currently the senior vice president of healthy communities for The California Endowment and is known for blending the practice of medicine and law to tackle the foundations of health disparities related to race, class, wealth, education, geography or employment, according to a press release issued by UC Davis. He is also the health officer for Alameda County, and his past positions have included HIV diability rights attorney at the Berkeley Community Law Center, health care policy analyst with the Consumer Union, and advocate for the homeless in San Francisco.
