TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25: Did you know that the inauguration (public swearing in ceremony) of Mayor-elect Kevin Johnson, "Together We Can", special event takes place on Tues-11/25 at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The ceremony will build on his campaign pledge to mobilize the community to work together bring about effective change and public action. Reserve your seat now. General seating for the ceremony will be available on a first come, first served basis. Doors open to the public at 6 pm and the program is expected to begin at 6:45 pm. The swearing-in ceremony will center on volunteerism and working together to improve and strengthen the Sacramento community. Hands-On Sacramento will be at the event to provide information and connect attendees with volunteer opportunities at over 350 local nonprofits and schools. In addition, as our city heads into the holiday season, those attending the swearing-in ceremony are encouraged to bring along cans of food to donate to the Sacramento Food Bank. Lisa Ling, television journalist and Carmichael native, will serve as the master of ceremonies and the program will include performances by the Rio Americano High School Jazz Ensemble, 34th Street Dancers and the Sacramento Theatre Company Young Professionals (STC-2). Pastor Ephraim Williams, of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, will swear Johnson in. Other highlights include a “Together We Can” video featuring the Sacramento community and fireworks donated by Kevin Crews who produces the Sacramento Kings pre-game fireworks show. >>more

NOVEMBER 29: “The Show” poetry series is every last Saturday of the month from 7-9 pm. THE SHOW with live band LSB is not just a poetry series, it’s an artistic experience and Northern California’s BIGGEST poetry event! On Sat-11/29 The Show will feature poets Phoenyx Reign from Washington D.C., Daniel Blake, SOL, E-Legal Tagteam, 15 year old Charrelle Mabry, plus gospel hip-hop artist Izreal + band. DECEMBER 1: Don’t miss the author’s visit, Tracy Kidder of “Mountains Beyond Mountains” taking place on Mon-12/1 at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at The book which tells the story of Boston physician Paul Farmer as “a man who could cure the world.” Kidder’s book documents Farmer’s Robin Hood-like fight against tuberculosis and the AIDS-causing human immunodeficiency virus in impoverished Haiti. Panel discussion from 4–5 pm on No Boundaries – Globalizing Health Care from Haiti to California and Beyond. DECEMBER 6: During each of the past five Christmas seasons, Tracy African American Association, Inc. (TAAA) has hosted the stellar play Black Nativity, written by celebrated African American poet, novelist, and playwright Langston Hughes. On Sat-12/6 at 4:30 pm TAAA will host the Allen Temple Baptist Church Cantateers’ final performance of Black Nativity at Tracy, California’s magnificently refurbished Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, 715 Central Ave in Tracy, California. $20/person.
