According to a press release issued by PEECE (Positive Energy Engaging Communities Everywhere) Keepers, Inc., nine of 12 Sacramento community centers, including Oak Park Community Center, are scheduled to be shut down beginning June 30 due to budget cuts.
PEECE Keepers is coordinating a series of fundraisers and partnering with other community organizations to keep the Center running full-time. Reportedly V101.1 and Wells Fargo Bank will be sponsoring the upcoming events. And to donate, visit any Wells Fargo and give to the PEECE Keepers Save Oak Park Center Fund.
- PEECE Keepers will be canvassing Oak Park Communities from now until June 30 to provide residents an opportunity to make pledges to this cause.
- On June 13, PEECE Keepers asks community members to support Oak Park businesses and eat at T&R Taste of Texas barbecue restaurant at 3621 Broadway in Central oak Park.
- On June 18, PEECE Keepers asks community members to support Oak Park businesses and eat at Louie’s Restaurant at the corner of Stockton and Broadway Blvds.
- On June 18, those unable to make it out to events can participate in the TV Telethon Fundraiser, which will be aired live on Access Sacramento from 5-10pm. Viewers can make donations via telephone by calling the telethon hotline.
- On June 23, PEECE Keepers is hosting a free Day of Peace Festival at the Oak Park Community Center, 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., from 9am-2pm. The festival will showcase the resources the Center has to offer and will include kids’ activities, free yoga classes, music, and more.
- Between June 28 to July 4, support this effort by purchasing your fireworks from PEECE Keepers fireworks booth at 7870 Florin Road (on the corner of Power Inn).
- On June 29, Paradise Missionary Baptist Church will be hosting a Gospel Benefit Concert in the multipurpose room at the Center. Entrance fee is $5 and funds raised at the event will be donated to PEECE Keepers.
