Plumas National Forest – Forum & Film – recognizing Tuskegee Airmen Wednesday, February 29, 2012
USDA Forest Service Plumas National Forest, Supervisor- Earl Ford is hosting it Black History Month Observance with The Tuskegee Airmen.
USDA Forest Civil Right Officer, Sonya M. Jones, in conjunction with the Quincy Arts are premiering the new film “Red Tails” in Quincy, CA on Feb 29, 2012. This is a historic event to the Plumas National Forest and the Quincy Community. The event will show case the film in alignment with the Federal Black History Month theme “Black Women in American Culture and History”. Sacramento’s own Mrs. Edith Roberts widow of Col. George “Spanky” Robert Commander of the 555 Fighter Squadron and 5 of the original Tuskegee Airmen will discuss the depiction of their lives as viewed in the film. A cultural first to have living recognized African American Icons at the Plumas National Forest and in Quincy, CA; a rural timber community of 50,000.
There will be a forum held at Feather River College in Quincy, California on February 29, 2012 at 10 AM to 12 PM for the Plumas Staff and the community to meet Mrs. Roberts and the Tuskegee Airmen followed by the premier at 6:30 PM. Award presentation will be facilitated by a legacy Ret. US Air Force Airman, Lee Mercer who is now the USDA Forest Service PNF Safety Officer. For more info call (530) 283-2050.
