Wine lovers can taste the finest varietals in the state as California’s top vineyards and winemakers are honored at the 2013 Grape and Gourmet at Cal Expo on Thursday, August 22.

Dozens of fantastic local restaurants including Mulvaney’s B&L, Ernesto’s, Taka’s and PF Chang’s will also participate, serving samples of their very best dishes for hundreds of guests.

The much-anticipated annual event is the celebration of the California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition — the oldest and one of the most prestigious wine events in the country. This year’s event welcome 2,600 entries ranging from a record-setting $175 bottle to an affordable boxed wine honored with a “Best of California” award.

Gold and Silver Medalists will feature their award-winning wines at Grape and Gourmet for guests to taste and purchase. Award-winning beers from the State Fair Craft Brew Competition will also be poured, along with samples of California’s award-winning cheeses from the State Fair Cheese Contest.

This year’s Grape and Gourmet will be held Thursday, August 22 from 5-8pm in Cal Expo’s Building A/B. Discount tickets are on sale now at www.calexpo.com. Guests can buy two tickets for $60 while supplies last and individual tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door. Proceeds benefit the scholarship program of the Friends of the Fair.
