Four African Americans are among the 16 individuals slated to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom later this year, according to an article on TheRoot.com.
The four African-Americans include Oprah Winfrey; minister, author and organizer Cordy Tindell “C.T.’ Vivian; Bayard Rustin, advisor to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and baseball player Ernie Banks.
The medal is the nationa’s highest civilian honor.
