#1 New York Times bestselling author Terry McMillan brings her humor, style, and brilliance to Sac State Thursday, February 6th at 7:30 pm in the University Union Ballroom.   The event is being presented by the University Union’s UNIQUE Programs.  Admission is FREE to the general public.

“I’m excited about coming back to Sacramento and to Sac State”, McMillan told THE HUB by phone.  “I lived in the Bay Area for years, and my son ran track from high school through his time at Stanford, and we used to go to Olympic trials at Sac State.  I’m looking forward to coming back.”

The author, perhaps best known for the blockbusters “Waiting To Exhale” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back”, has some excitement in store for fans in Sacramento.

“Usually, I read a few excerpts from my newest work (“Who Asked You?”) or an unpublished work-in-progress, and then I’ll address questions from the audience,” McMillan said.  “It will be fun!”

I asked the author if she thought her own stellar works have influenced today’s writers.

“I think I have influenced some of the newer writers today,” McMillan said, “but I don’t really read into the things I read and look for my voice…I don’t take credit for that.  You don’t know until you write something just how much you were influenced by something you read, and how it sneaks into your own work.  Hopefully, what you end up with is a fusion, and ultimately it’s your own voice that ends up on the page.”
