The Cal Expo board of governors voted unanimously today to approve a development agreement to build a privately financed stadium for Sacramento’s new professional soccer franchise.

The agreement with Ovations Fanfare will lead to the construction of an 8,000-seat stadium at the state fairgrounds for Sacramento Republic FC, which begins play this spring in the lower division USL Pro league.

Ovations vice president of business development Nick Nicora said construction of the $3 million stadium could begin as early as next week and completed by June, at the latest.
