There’s a new, weekly event in Sacramento, and it’s the place to spend Sunday afternoons.

Weekly from 11am-4pm, lay out under cabanas, tents, or the abundance of trees on the river in West Sacramento at Off The Grid:  River Walk while you enjoy dishes from 20 food vendors, along with local brews and craft cocktails.  I checked the event out last weekend, and plan on spending many Sundays there between now and October 30.

offthegridarticletextThe food choices were almost too much to choose from…but I managed.  Do yourself a favor and check out the paella from Gerald’s Paella (geraldspaella.com), and prepare to speak in tongues as I almost did when I tasted it.  In lieu of dessert, stop by Costa’s Finest Kettle Corn (costasfinestkettlecorn.com).  I tried — and loved — the jalapeño cheddar and spicy dark chocolate varieties, but if you like something milder you can choose from 15 or so others.

Beverage wise, I went with the adult fare and can personally vouch for the IPA on site.  I had a few, so forgive me for not remembering its name…but the good news is there was only one IPA.

There were lots of families at the event last weekend, and people of at least three generations enjoying the park, the music, the food, and each other.  There are tons of kids activities, as well — it’s an event for the whole family.

The music at Off The Grid created a very cool vibe, and there were abundant — and necessary — cooling tents around the park.  That was about the only negative from my first experience there — it was HOT last weekend — but here in Sacramento, you either manage that during the summer or you spend the summer inside…and there’s just too much to do in town for that!

See you next weekend in West Sac!

RIver Walk Park is located at 651 2nd Street in West Sac.  For more information on the event, to to offthegrid.com
