All of Covered California’s 11 health plans agreed Saturday to extend the deadline for consumers to submit their first premium payment to Jan. 15.
The previous deadline was Jan. 6. The nine additional days are intended to ease worry about the rush to pay invoices only recently received.
The extension also gives health plans more time to mail invoices and for consumers to get them. But payment for coverage taking effect Jan. 1 must be in the hands of health plans by Jan. 15, not simply postmarked or in transit.
About 200,000 households that supplied their email addresses to Covered California — and signed up for coverage beginning Jan. 1 — will receive direct notification about the deadline extension.
Consumers can also visit CoveredCA.com for instructions on how to pay their premium.
This is a one-time extension of the payment deadline. Future premiums are due at the beginning of each month.
