On Monday, Danielle Brooks — the actress who plays the jaunty Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on Netflix’s acclaimed series, Orange is the New Black, and the leather-tough Sofia in Broadway’s Tony Award-winningColor Purple revival — sashayed into the Glamour x Facebook Luncheon at New York City’s Samsung 837 to discuss the 2016 presidential election. She rocked an asymmetrical bustier top, a striped, pleated midi skirt, matching striped heels, and a black Chelsea Leifken clutch with a message written in bold white ink: “Treat everybody like they are somebody.”

The clutch was simple enough but, with it, Brooks amplified a powerful directive — one which we could all stand to heed in the wake of recent tragedies.
