If you’ve not caught the iconic Diana Ross in concert, you owe it to yourself to do so.  She is a literal force on nature on stage, silencing critics with stunning vocal performances of many of her hits, which span five decades.  Supremes hits, her incredible solo ballads, music from her three feature films, her disco smashes…they’re all in her live show.

Calling her a force of nature really isn’t a stretch.  In 1983, many fans worldwide — including this writer — watched when she performed in a blinding rainstorm in Central Park to an audience of over 400,000, further cementing her spot in pop culture history.

Of course, audiences are also treated to an almost regal fashion show with a Ross performance, with each frock more fabulous than the last.

There’s also something intangible, almost indescribable, about a Diana Ross show.  It’s less of a concert, and more of an experience.  When she flashes that still-stunning smile, spreads her arms wide, and tells you she loves you, you simply can’t help but love her back.

“It doesn’t matter to me if I am in a stadium with thousands of people or in a much smaller venue,” Ross said as she launched her tour this spring.  “My interaction is with the audience on a one to one.  I always try to see their faces and their eyes!  I perform and sing to THEM.”

I’ll give Ross a chance to see my face and my eyes again, at Thunder Valley Casino on September 27, if my heart doesn’t stop from excitement before then.  She’ll also appear in San Jose and Oakland this fall, wrapping up her “In The Name Of Love” tour which has garnered her largely excellent reviews.

In case you can’t tell, I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS SHOW!  Hope to see you there!

Diana Ross will perform in San Jose on September 25, in Oakland on September 26, and at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln on September 27.  Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com
