Gayle King has learned new skills during the shut-in period due to the coronavirus pandemic, including FaceTime talks with her now-distant friend Oprah Winfrey.

King said FaceTime has become a necessity to communicate with her California-based friends and family, speaking during her return to radio Thursday with Sirius XM’s “Gayle King In the House.” She hosted the show from the kitchen table of her New York City home, where she has been quarantined.

“Oprah and I even FaceTime, and we’ve never, ever done that before,” King said. “I have no idea when I am going to see people in California.”

The “CBS This Morning” host said she was happy to return to her radio show roots and take calls from listeners during the pandemic that has shut the country down.

“These are weird times we’re in, and I’m trying to find a way to navigate it all,” she said. “I haven’t been out of the house in 14 days. As I sit here today, I believe I am coronavirus free. But I’m so afraid.”
