Sacramento Unified Education Foundation – SCUSD’s official nonprofit organization – will kick off fundraising for two arson-damaged playgrounds with an event at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School on Tuesday, SCUSD’s first day of school.

At the event, the group will reveal a donor who has made a significant contribution toward the $50,000 needed to cover the district’s costs for replacing playground structures at Wenzel and John Sloat elementary schools.

Earlier this summer, playground structures at Wenzel and Sloat were set ablaze. Damage was extensive and both structures were removed for safety reasons. Although SCUSD is moving swiftly to replace the structures, it is unlikely that either will be ready by the opening of school on September 3.

The fundraiser will take place on Tuesday, September 3, at 10:30am at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School, 6870 Greenhaven Drive.
