Each hairstylist (that included: Noonie Carter, Trenell McClureJazmine Wilson, and Crystal Whitehead) were encouraged to have their fans of clients, family and friends vote up to 3 times for one week (from 7/31-8/6/16 with the winner being announced on Sun-8/7 at 1 pm).

So what did Crystal win? An all-expense paid accommodations for the Hair & Fashion Week in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands taking place October 5-11, 2016. Crystal will be one of several contestants from around the country winning hair competitions presented by Bernaes’ in these cities (Long Beach, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago and Sacramento) and going on to compete in Bernaes ICON Awards Show – celebrating fashion and beauty’s professionals. As I had the opportunity to attend the hair and fashion show on July 31st, I was completely stunned with Crystal’s platform performance (as each contestant had only 15 minutes to complete a cut and style on stage) and I asked her to share with us her experience on stage:

THE HUB: How were you inspired to do this particular cut?
Crystal: Originally I wanted to do a short edgy cut but my model didn’t want me to cut her hair. So I had to be creative with doing a weave and decided to google some styles online of edgy bobs. I wasn’t sure about the cut but I had the cut in mind to create so I sent it to my model who stated that it was real cute, so I went with it.

THE HUB: The colors are really dynamic and so retro. Where did that come from?
Crystal: I really wanted colors that would blend well with others. I liked the purple and pink and wanted the blue to be the peek-a-boo color.

THE HUB: Who chose your model’s outfit?
Crystal: I knew she would be a good model, Jaleesa Mitchell, and saw her in a 1 piece before and thought it would be best for her to wear a 1-piece cat suit. It matched her look and told my make up artist (Natalie Whitehead) how I wanted her make-up to look and match up.

THE HUB: What would you officially call this style?
Crystal: Edgy bob with pieces coming over the fringe bangs with popping colors

THE HUB: When did you know that you had won?
Crystal: I got a phone notification on Sun-8/8 in the afternoon while I was on a free boat party on the Sacramento River that I had just won recently through Eric Stephens (with Bombay VIP LLC and Folsom Lake Dodge – ) for 10 people with my sister and friends.

Crystal stated this on her Facebook page: “THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND THANK YOU. To everyone that voted for me. Shared my post. Gave encouraging words. I can’t show my appreciation enough. You helped me win also. Thank you Kimbe Abernathy for the opportunity. When I found out that I won. I was on the Sacramento River enjoying time with some of my closest friends and sister. What better place to get some great news…..so with that being said time to get ready for St. Thomas in October”
