Pharrell Williams has managed to touch the nerves of millions by making a single comment. A statement he made in an interview with Oprah has led to an uproar in the social media community.
When the topic turned to race and he introduced a phrase that is currently trending on Twitter: #NewBlack.
According to Pharrell, “The ‘New Black’ doesn’t blame other races for our issues. The New Black dreams and realizes that it’s not [a]pigmentation; it’s a mentality. And it’s either going to work for you, or it’s going to work against you. And you’re going to pick the side you’re gonna be on.”
