Billionaire Ron Burkle — who owns the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins — and Bay Area investor and founder of 24 Hour Fitness Mark Mastrov are in serious discussions to team up to bid to buy the Sacramento Kings and partner with the city to build a new downtown sports arena, according to an article on SacBee.com.

The news reportedly followed an announcement made by Mayor Kevin Johnson during a press conference on Tuesday where it was announced that 20 prominent Sacramentans had agreed to invest $1 million apiece for a minority stake in the team.
