Hopefully, you and I have a shared Christmas memory.

I recall Christmas mornings of my youth, waking up around 5am after an impossibly long night of interrupted sleep. I could have sworn Rudolph and his compatriots were stomping on the roof of our house.

Then, I’d hop up to find a bounty of toys around a tree that had been magically lit in the middle of the night. My heart’s desire, ensconced in packages, boxes, and bows.

This morning should have felt like that. As I was prepping to watch last night’s live Good Times & All In The Family broadcasts on ABC, news broke about the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

Trump is now only the third president in US history to have been impeached. Several friends of mine have cited Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton before him, but Nixon actually resigned before he was to have been impeached. It was Clinton and Andrew Johnson.

Trump’s now headed to a Senate trial, although House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is being vague about when she and other other Democrats will hand things over to the Senate.

I’d been waiting for a day like this since… well, since Trump’s 2016 “election,” so this morning should have felt like those Christmas mornings of yore.

But it doesn’t. In fact, I’m a little sad.

Hear me out.
