First Lady Michelle Obama, the USDA, the US Department of Education, and Epicurious have joined together for the second Healthy Lunchtime Challenge where kids ages 8-12 are invited to create and enter their best original lunch recipe for the chance to attend the Kids’ “State Dinner” at the White House.

Kids and their parents/legal guardians can enter their best lunch recipe inspired by MyPlate, the USDA’s user-friendly guide to healthy eating. One winner from each of the 50 states and US territories will be awarded a trip to Washington, DC to attend the Kids’ “State Dinner” hosted by Mrs. Obama at the White House this summer.

Recipes should include each of the five food groups, either in one dish or as parts of a lunch meal. Fruit and veggies should make up about half of the recipe or meal, along with whole grains, lean protein and low-fat dairy.

Entries must be received by May 12, and winners will be notified in late June.
