NALCAB (National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders) has recently launched a National Fair Housing Media Campaign to engage and inform African-American, Latino, Asian Pacific Islanders and other communities about discriminatory housing practices, their rights under the federal Fair Housing Act, and HUD resources.

The media campaign will engage people through a comprehensive national media effort, as well as grassroots outreach, including television and radio spots.

The Fair Housing campaign was designed based on research that shows minority homebuyers and tenants are not always aware when they have been subjected to discrimination; that a large segment of the public is not even aware of the rights and protections afforded by the Fair Housing Act.

The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. Persons who believe they have experienced discrimination may file a complaint by contacting HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at (800) 669-9777 (voice) or (800) 927-9275 (TTY). Housing discrimination complaints may also be filed at www.hud.gov/fairhousing or by downloading HUD’s free housing discrimination mobile application, which can be accessed through Apple devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, and iTouch.
