California Gov. Gavin Newsom assailed President Donald Trump on Friday for attempting to “sabotage” mail voting by underfunding the postal system.
Trump has regularly decried mail voting, alleging it is ripe for fraud even as he has applied for a mail ballot himself, and this week he explicitly linked postal funding to mail voting.
Newsom pushed back Friday, criticizing what he called the “vandalism of our postal system” and said he hoped Congress would find a way to increase funding.
“I demand and expect more of our country,” Newsom said, decrying what he called a “clearly intentionally being done” attempt at a “weaponization of sorts of our postal system.”
