Media mogul Oprah Winfrey is reportedly donating $12 million to a new African-American history museum being built in Washington, DC.

Winfrey reportedly had previously given $1 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which began construction in early 2012 and will cost about $500 million. The museum’s 350-seat theater will be named after Winfrey, who is also a member of the museum’s advisory council.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture was established as a Smithsonian museum by an Act of Congress in 2003 and it will be the nation’s largest and most comprehensive cultural destination devoted exclusively to showcasing African American life, art, history and culture. The museum is expected to open in 2015, making it the 19th Smithsonian museum.
