Queen Latifah, fresh off a featured spot as the title character in NBC’s The Wiz Live!, has been cast in the lead role of Empire co-creator Lee Daniels’ new music pilot for Fox.
The untitled pilot, which has at times been referred to as Star, focuses on three young women who form a girl group and hope to rise to stardom. Those three roles also have been filled. The pilot, which could lead to a series, is set to begin production this month in Atlanta.
