I watched a little bit of Reading Rainbow as a kid. Not much, just enough to recognize the theme song and get a handful of book recommendations from host LeVar Burton. So I didn’t think I’d have such a visceral reaction to hearing Burton’s voice now, 20 some years later.

But once I played the first episode on his new audio show LeVar Burton Reads, in which the Roots and Star Trek actor handpicks short stories to read to adults every Tuesday, the hairs on my arms stiffened, my eyes welled up and a stupid smile took over my face. I was nostalgic for a voice I didn’t realize I had missed.
