Stanley Crouch, a former Daily News columnist and a renowned jazz critic, whose searing — and controversial — commentary on race kept readers enthralled for years, has died. He was 74.

His death was announced by his wife Gloria Nixon-Crouch. Crouch died at New York’s Calvary Hospital Wednesday, following nearly a decade of serious health issues.
