A new study has found that more African-American women are enrolling in college and graduating with degrees than their male counterparts, according to an article on SeattleTimes.com.

According to the study — conducted by the College Fund/UNCF — 24% more African-American women enrolled in college than African-American men, and twice as many of these women earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees each year.

The study also reportedly found the number of African-American women earning law and medicine degrees increased by 210% over the past decade. Additionally, the number of black women obtaining bachelor’s degrees increased by 55% over the past 20 years.

However, the study also uncovered some short falls when it comes to African-American college students compared to other ethnicities. The study found the percentage of African-American college students only rose by 1.2% — from 8.8% in 1984 to 10% in 1994. And African-American college students are twice as likely to be unemployed one year after graduation than their white counterparts.
