Sacramento music fans are in for a real treat next weekend:  the legendary Johnny Mathis is comin’ to town Sunday, September 24.  He’ll take the stage at the Sacramento Community Theatre at 7:30pm.

While he hardly needs an introduction, the young ‘uns may want to know that Mathis, the indisputable voice of romance, began his recording career over 60 years ago.  The 81 year old superstar is still at the top of his game vocally.  I caught him a year or so ago in the Bay Area and he blew me away.  “Misty,” “Chances Are,” “The Last Time I Felt Like This,” “Wonderful, Wonderful,” “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late”…I could go on and on.

And that’s without even mentioning Mathis’ extensive Christmas collection.  It may be a little early for “We Need A Little Christmas,” but who knows?  With everything that’s going on in the world today, I could argue that we need a little Christmas right this very minute!  Mathis is a consummate gentleman, and he knows how to give his fans what we want, so we may be able to talk him into a little holiday teaser…

…or at the very least, we may be able to coax him into singing something from his upcoming album, Johnny Mathis Sings The Great New American Songbook.  The album features the legend’s stunning, one-of-a-kind takes on songs made famous by Pharrell Williams, Whitney Houston, R Kelly, and others.

See you Sunday!
