Valley Vision To Honor The Roberts Family Development Center For Longstanding Service to our Community at Annual Legacy Feast Awards Dinner

by Coleman Communications Intern Kris Michelle

Valley Vision announced the selection of three awardees whose legacy will be celebrated at an annual ceremony and dinner on May 12 at the California Museum.  One of those awardees, the Roberts Family Development Center, is a longtime friend and supporter of the Sac Cultural Hub.

The Center will receive the Regional Social Equity Leader award for outstanding achievements in improving the quality of life of the underserved and furthering social equity in our region.  Tina and Derrell Roberts founded the Roberts Family Development Center in 2001 in honor of their grandparents who were true believers in the principles of family. Today, the Center’s family-focused programs support the health and well-being of the North Sacramento and Del Paso Heights communities where more than 4,000 youth under the age 17 reside.

Through a holistic suite of programs and services, the Center has been helping families for the past 15 years avoid becoming part of negative social statistics such as dropout rates, teen pregnancy rates, arrest rates, by focusing on uplifting people from early childhood through family education, economic empowerment and technology. The Center has grown from a small, grass-roots center into an organization serving multiple communities via satellite programs at several area schools.

For the past 10 years, Valley Vision has been recognizing individuals and groups who exhibit boundary-crossing leadership, employ revolutionary approaches to overcome traditional problems, and demonstrate the resolve and spirit to achieve a bold vision that benefits the entire Sacramento region.

“We are a region made up of remarkable people doing extraordinary things,” said Gayle Garbolino-Mojica, Placer County Superintendent of Schools and Valley Vision’s chair of events in a prepared statement.  “Valley Vision believes it’s important to hold up and celebrate the contributions of those whose efforts bring about real and lasting benefit to our communities.”

The 2016 awards ceremony will be held May 12 at the California Museum in downtown Sacramento.  An array of Placer County beer and wine selections will be featured, and the program will include an entertaining Family Feud game show produced and performed by B Street Theater Co.  For attendance ad sponsorship information, contact Valley Vision’s Jennifer Romero at 916-325-1630.
