More than 200 People from the Black Child Legacy Campaign Participate in MLK 365 March
WHAT:
More than 200 people from seven focus neighborhoods will join together to raise awareness about the disproportionate African American child deaths in Sacramento County during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day march led by MLK 365 on Monday, January 16, 2017. Area residents from the Del Paso Heights, Meadowview, Valley Hi, North Highlands, Arden Arcade, Oak Park and Fruitridge/Stockton will march with representatives from the Steering Committee on Reduction of African American Child Deaths (RAACD) and supporters of the Black Child Legacy Campaign. More event details about the 2017 MLK March & festivities in Sacramento can be found at http://www.mlk365.org
WHY:
According to the Sacramento County Child Death Review Team, African American child death rate was twice the average of the overall child death rate during the period from 1990 to 2009. The Black Child Legacy Campaign is raising visibility and strengthening collective impact efforts of the Steering Committee on RAACD to reduce the number of black mortalities.
