WHAT:      Covered California is hosting a virtual event to release new enrollment data and urge Californians to sign up for health care coverage before the final deadline of the current open enrollment period. Californians have through Jan. 31 to pick a health insurance plan, with 90% of people receiving significant financial help from the American Rescue Plan to bring the cost of coverage within reach.

The latest data shows that the majority of Covered California’s enrollees pay less than $10 per month for comprehensive coverage from private, name-brand companies.

In addition, as America celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., prominent leaders in the African American and Latino communities will join Covered California to highlight the opportunity for communities of color to sign up for health care coverage, which along with access to quality care, are key components to furthering health equity. The event will urge all Californians to get enrolled, get covered and protect themselves physically, mentally and financially.

About Covered California

Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace, where Californians can find affordable, high-quality insurance from top insurance companies. Covered California is the only place where individuals who qualify can get financial assistance on a sliding scale to reduce premium costs. Consumers can then compare health insurance plans and choose the plan that works best for their health needs and budget. Depending on their income, some consumers may qualify for the low-cost or no-cost Medi-Cal program.

Covered California is an independent part of the state government whose job is to make the health insurance marketplace work for California’s consumers. It is overseen by a five-member board appointed by the governor and the Legislature. For more information about Covered California, please visit www.CoveredCA.com.
